Our Personal Experience with Parrots
We still clearly remember the day we brought our parrot home from a local pet store. Among all the birds in the shop, his bright green feathers, sharp eyes, and active movements immediately caught our attention. He was sitting quietly at first, but the moment we approached him, he tilted his head as if observing us carefully. That small moment made us feel like he was already trying to connect with us.
Within a few weeks of bringing him home, something truly surprising happened—he started mimicking our voices. At first, it was just random sounds and whistles, but slowly he began repeating simple words. Over time, he even started saying names of family members and repeating short phrases that we used in daily conversation. Honestly, it felt unbelievable how quickly he adapted to human speech patterns.
Our children absolutely love him. My son spends time talking to him every evening after school. Sometimes, it genuinely feels like they are having a real conversation. The parrot responds with whistles, head movements, and occasional words that match the tone of the conversation. It creates a strong emotional connection that is hard to describe unless you experience it yourself.
We also take care to adjust his environment according to the weather. We keep his cage both indoors and outdoors depending on conditions. During cooler mornings, we place him outside so he can enjoy fresh air, natural sunlight, and sounds of nature. However, during hot afternoons or windy conditions, we bring him inside to ensure he remains safe and comfortable. Over time, we learned that parrots are very sensitive to temperature and environment changes, so proper balance is very important.
Types of Parrots Around the World
Parrots come in many species, and each type has its own unique personality, size, and intelligence level. Some are extremely social and talkative, while others are calm and more observation-based.
Popular Parrot Breeds
African Grey Parrot
The African Grey is considered one of the most intelligent parrot species in the world. It is famous for its ability to mimic human speech with clarity and even understand context in some cases. Many owners say they feel like they are talking to a real person when interacting with this bird.

Macaws are large, powerful parrots known for their bright, vibrant colors like blue, red, and yellow. They are very social birds and require a lot of attention, space, and mental stimulation. Because of their size and energy, they are not ideal for beginners but are highly loved for their beauty and personality.
Cockatiel
Cockatiels are smaller parrots that are friendly, gentle, and relatively easy to care for. They are known for their cheerful whistles and affectionate behavior. They adapt well to home environments and are often recommended for first-time bird owners.
Budgerigar (Budgie)
Budgies are one of the most popular pet birds in the world due to their small size, affordability, and friendly nature. They are easy to care for and can also learn to mimic words if trained properly. They are perfect for beginners and families with children.
Different regions of the world are known for different parrot species. Countries like Australia, Brazil, Indonesia, and various parts of Africa are home to many wild parrot populations due to their tropical climates and natural habitats.
Behavior, Talking Ability & Bonding
Parrots are not just birds; they are highly intelligent and emotional companions. Their behavior often surprises new owners because they show signs of understanding and emotional response.
Parrots can:
Mimic human speech and sounds
Recognize different family members
Show affection through body language
React to mood changes in the home
Form strong emotional bonds with owners
In our personal experience, our parrot reacts differently to each family member. For example, he becomes more active and excited when children are around, while he stays calmer with adults. He also whistles when he senses happiness in the home. On the other hand, when the environment is quiet or when no one is around, he becomes silent and less active.
This behavior shows that parrots are highly observant animals. They not only copy sounds but also respond emotionally to the environment around them. Over time, they become part of the family rather than just a pet.
Parrot Care – Daily Routine
Taking care of a parrot requires consistency, patience, and attention to detail. A healthy routine ensures both physical and mental well-being.
Food
A balanced diet is essential for parrots. In our daily routine, we provide:
Seed mix (basic nutrition source)
Fresh fruits like apple, banana, and papaya
Vegetables such as spinach, carrot, and cucumber
Clean water changed regularly
We also make sure not to overfeed sugary fruits because moderation is important for their health. A poor diet can lead to feather problems, weakness, and lack of energy.
Environment
Parrots need a clean, safe, and stimulating environment. Their cage is cleaned daily to avoid bacteria and bad odor. Fresh water is always provided, and we regularly check food bowls to ensure hygiene.
We also add toys inside the cage to keep them mentally active. Parrots are intelligent birds, and without stimulation, they can become bored or stressed. Toys like bells, ropes, and small wooden objects help them stay engaged and active throughout the day.
Breeding & Lifespan
Parrots reproduce differently from mammals. They lay eggs instead of giving birth to live young.
Female parrots typically lay 2 to 5 eggs per breeding cycle
Both parents may take part in caring for the eggs
Incubation period varies depending on species
One of the most fascinating things about parrots is their long lifespan. Depending on the species, parrots can live anywhere between 10 to 50 years, and some even longer in proper care conditions. This makes them long-term companions, often staying with families for generations.
Because of their long lifespan, owning a parrot is a serious responsibility. It is not a short-term pet commitment.
Weather & Comfort
Parrots are very sensitive to weather conditions. Extreme heat or cold can affect their health quickly.
In regions like the UAE, where temperatures can rise significantly, proper care becomes even more important. We always make sure to:
Avoid direct sunlight exposure for long periods
Keep parrots in shaded or indoor cool areas during peak heat
Ensure proper ventilation in the room
Provide fresh water frequently to prevent dehydration
Even slight changes in temperature can affect their behavior, so monitoring comfort is very important.
Why Parrots Are Special
Parrots are truly special because they bring life, sound, and energy into a home. Unlike many pets, they actively interact with humans and respond in ways that feel intelligent and emotional.
Guests are often surprised when they hear our parrot speak or mimic words. It creates an instant joyful atmosphere and often becomes the center of attention during family gatherings. Children especially enjoy showing their friends what the parrot can say or do.
Beyond entertainment, parrots also build emotional bonds. Over time, they recognize voices, routines, and emotions of their owners. This connection creates a sense of companionship that feels very natural and comforting.
At Gurfateh Pets Global, we strongly believe that pets are not just animals—they are family members who deserve love, care, respect, and responsibility. Through sharing real-life experiences like ours, we hope to spread awareness about proper pet care and strengthen the bond between humans and animals.
